WALK ALONG MALL ROAD

Mall Road is one of the most iconic landmarks in Shimla, steeped in rich history and culture. Built during the British colonial era, this long stretch served as the hub of all social and cultural activities at that time. Today, it still retains much of its colonial charm with beautiful architecture and an old-world feel. The bustling and vibrant area is a pedestrian zone, allowing you to take a leisurely stroll and explore the various shops, restaurants, and cafes that dot the street.

02.

VISIT THE RIDGE AND THE CHRIST CHURCH

Located in the heart of The Mall Road, you will find the Ridge and Christ Church, a large open space exhibiting panoramic views of Shimla. While on The Ridge, you can walk over to Christ Church, one of the oldest churches in North India, built in 1858 and open every Sunday to visitors. The church is a popular landmark that features architecture inspired by the Neo-Gothic style.

TRY THE “ESPRESSO” AT INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE

Which is not quite an espresso but they call it that anyway. It’s basically a milky coffee that’s a bit of a misnomer, but it’s worth trying for the experience. Plus, the charming old‑school atmosphere of the Coffee House is a fun throwback to a bygone era of Indian coffee culture.

Opens every day at 8 am.

Once you reach the top, you’ll be greeted by a majestic statue of Lord Hanuman, standing tall at 108 feet. The temple’s peaceful ambiance, coupled with its tranquil surroundings, make it a calming sanctuary.

05.

VISIT THE VICEREGAL LODGE

Located just 3.3 km away from The Ridge and Mall Road, the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies or Viceregal Lodge is a must-visit destination for those interested in history and architecture. The building, designed by Scottish architect Henry Irwin, served as the residence of the British Viceroy during the colonial era before being converted into a research institute. Its Scottish-Gothic style and rich history make it a unique attraction worth exploring. Guided tours of the building are available, and it’s surrounded by scenic greenery.

Keep in mind that it’s closed on Mondays.
